Description

Joe Rootsey is recognised as one of Queenslands first contemporary Aboriginal artists. He came from the remote regioon of Barrow Point north of Cooktown in far north Queensland. While in hospital in Cairns in 1954 he was sketching on rough pieces of paper. He then moved onto water colours on paper and produced an important body of work. This books marks the retrospective exhibition held at tjhe Queensland Art Gallery in 2010, that gave him long overdue recognition of the importance of his work.
